Student Support Services
At ACST, we offer support for students in the areas of Counseling (see the Counseling web page), Reading and Academic Support.
Reading support is offered by one full-time and one part-time teacher for students in grades one to five who are significantly below grade level in their reading, and for those who have a diagnosed reading disability. Small group instruction is connected to classroom work, incorporating best practices in literacy learning and technology to further enhance reading success.
Academic support is offered by one full-time and one part-time teacher for students in Kindergarten to fifth grade who have a diagnosed learning difference. The services provided may be in the classroom or in a small group setting outside the classroom. It is expected that students with Individual Education Plans (IEP's) from other institutions will bring that information with them when they are admitted to ACST. Our academic support teachers will follow up on existing IEP's, and develop new Individual Learning Plans with teachers and parents here at school for those who are recently identified.
In 2010 2011, ACST will be beginning a program for Gifted and Talented students offered by one part-time teacher. This will incorporate both push-in and pull-out services, aimed at enriching the learning experience, and challenging our most able students in the most appropriate setting possible.
