The MSA L 2 section is available as a year-long course aimed at 9th and 10th  grade students of any language background with little or some previous instruction in MSA. The approach is eclectic, although emphasis is on communicative competence. All language skills are given equal importance. Units of study are selected according to students' interests, needs and developmental levels. More importance is given to critical thinking and to discussion. Students are encouraged to interact with the local population in authentic, real life situations, and to watch Arabic television.

Grades 11-12:
IB Arabic abs initio Year 1& 2 (SL)

IB Arabic ab initio is a two-year language program that is designed to give students who have not studied a foreign language for an extended period of time the opportunity to meet the IB requirements for Group 2. It is designed to meet the interactive needs of beginners by developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the study of a wide range of oral and written texts. The basic grammar and vocabulary taught center on targeted communicative functions. The goal is to guide students towards spontaneous expression by providing maximum exposure to Standard Arabic and many opportunities to apply language skills to real-life communicative needs, interests, and social contexts.

IB Modern Standard Arabic B - Years 1& 2  - HL and SL

The IB Language B program is a two-year foreign language course that is designed for IB students who have already studied the target language for two to five years immediately prior to the beginning of their IB course. It may be studied at either Higher or Standard level. Although the nature of the Language B course is the same for both levels, the two levels differ in the number of types of texts that the students are expected to handle and write, and more generally, in the depth and breadth of the language used. These differences are reflected in the objectives and assessment criteria. The main focus of the program is on language acquisition and development in the four primary language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. These language skills are developed through the study and use of a range of written and spoken materials that are related to the Arabic culture(s). Students learn how to effectively communicate in a number of authentic situations that extend to the domains of work, social relationships and, at the higher level, may include the discussion of abstract ideas.

IB Modern Standard Arabic A2 - Years 1& 2 - HL and SL

The IB Language A2 program is a two-year Modern Standard Arabic language course that is designed for study at both higher and standard levels by native speakers with a high level of competence in the target language. It aims at developing a variety of linguistic skills through the study of a wide range of texts, both spoken and written, related to culture as well as literature, to promote an appreciation of the wealth and subtleties of the language, and to facilitate the clear expression of ideas. Students are also given the opportunity to explore the cultures of the language, and to make connections between other languages and cultures with which they are familiar. They are thus able to use the language for purposes and in situations involving sophisticated discussion, argument and debate.
