"Opening Doors, Hearts, and Minds" |
Welcome to ACST’s Middle School
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the American Cooperative School of Tunis, and to share with you our school mission of “Opening Doors, Hearts and Minds”. Our mission is to educate the whole child to meet the needs of the present, and to equip them with the resources to tackle the uncertainties of the future. As the Middle School Principal, I am very proud of what our school has to offer. We have a diverse student population with representatives from across the world. Our faculty are dedicated and enthusiastic, and are always ready to assist our students in realizing their full potential.
The Middle School Program at ACST serves students in grades 6-8, with two sections per grade level. Recognizing the need to address concerns of the “middle school age student”, the middle school program forms an important part of ACST’s educational continuum. Students in ACST’s Middle School are enrolled in six core subjects: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, French or ESL, and Physical Education. Students also rotate each quarter or semester through an elective wheel consisting of Technology, Tunisian Studies, Music, Art, Drama, and Health. Complementing the academic program is an advisory program: students are placed in small groups and assigned to a faculty member who serves as their academic advisor. The Middle School Student Council (MSSC) is one of the avenues through which our Middle School students can gain valuable leadership skills and the MSSC develops activities and programs that are developmentally appropriate for this age group. In addition, Middle School students participate in after school activities ranging from sports, art, music, crafts, and dance. Students in grade 8 are eligible to participate on the Varsity athletic teams. Taking advantage of its unique location, the Middle School offers a Tunisian Studies Program, providing an opportunity for ACST students to research and discover the history, culture, and customs of Tunisia.
All this takes place in a supportive, positive environment in which a real partnership exists between students, parents and faculty, working together so that all our students can attain their goals.
Welcome to ACST
