Math

Grade 6
Sixth Grade Mathematics emphasizes the further development and refinement of students’ numerical reasoning skills by building upon the mathematical knowledge students acquired in their elementary years.  Students develop their skills in decimals, algebra patterns and variables,
number theory, fractions, ratio and percent, data, geometry, measurement, algebra, and probability. Problem Solving opportunities will be spread throughout the curriculum. Extension activities will be offered for those students showing mastery of the basic curriculum.

Grade 7
Seventh Grade Mathematics begins the exploration of abstract algebraic thinking while reinforcing computation skills via a variety of mathematical ideas. Students develop skills in algebraic expressions and integers, equations, decimals, factors, fractions, and exponents, fraction operations, ratio, proportion, and percent, spatial thinking, area and volume, right triangles, and data and probability.  Problem Solving opportunities will be spread throughout the curriculum. Extension activities will be offered for those students showing mastery of the basic curriculum.

Grade 8 (Algebra Focus)
Eighth Grade Mathematics develops mathematical skills and an understanding of mathematical concepts in an introductory algebra course. Different approaches to problem solving and real world application problems that use methods based in algebra for finding their solutions will be addressed throughout the curriculum. Topics of study include variables, expressions, and function patterns, real numbers and their properties, solving equations, ratio, proportion, similar figures, and percent, square roots and the Pythagorean Theorem, inequalities, graphs, relations, and functions, linear equations, exponents, polynomials, quadratic functions, and data and probability. Algebraic, graphical, verbal, and numerical methods will be spread throughout the course. Extension activities will be offered for those students showing mastery of the basic curriculum.
