'Opening Doors, Hearts, and Minds'
Welcome to the elementary school at ACST. My name is Lori Newman and I am thrilled to be joining the ACST community as the incoming Elementary Principal for the 2018-19 school year. Having worked in India, Japan, Venezuela and Canada, I am excited at the prospect of working, living and traveling in a new part of the world. Above all, I look forward to creating strong and collaborative relationships with the staff, students and parents of the ACST community.
Enriched by approximately 180 students hailing from 50 different countries, the elementary school is focused on building a strong foundation of learning. Our skilled and talented staff provide rich learning experiences for students from preschool through Grade 5. Core subjects in literacy, math, science and social studies are complemented by specialized instruction in art, music, PE and either Arabic or French. Guided by our school mission, faculty members are committed to cultivating a love of learning by “opening doors, hearts and minds”.
“Teaching is not about answering questions but about raising questions – opening doors for them in places that they could not imagine.” Yawar Baig
Our school’s core values of respect, integrity, grit, curiosity and compassion lay the foundation for creating an ethos within the elementary school that is vibrant, supportive and inclusive. By addressing students’ social and emotional needs, we are able to create an environment where children feel safe, comfortable, challenged and engaged. ACST students are further supported with specialized services in EAL, learning support and counseling. Understanding the importance of exploration and passion outside of the classroom, our academic program is complemented by a rich variety of arts and sports offerings through our After School Activities program.
In preparation for my move to Tunis, I have had multiple opportunities to visit the ACST community. I have been struck by the warm and welcoming environment, the committed staff, the beautiful elementary facilities, and a future-focused drive for continual improvement. I couldn’t be more pleased to be joining the school, and I look forward to meeting returning families and to welcoming new “ACST Falcons” to our community.
