'Opening Doors, Hearts, and Minds'
Welcome to the American Cooperative School of Tunis (ACST). Whether you are a prospective student or parent, a current community member, a possible employee, or an interested onlooker, it is my pleasure to welcome you to ACST. ACST has been serving the international community in Tunis for more than 55 years, and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead such a highly-regarded international school. As the school mission states, we are committed to opening doors, hearts and minds. This simple, yet profound mission statement is at the heart of all decisions that we make as a school.
ACST is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges in the US, the Council of International Schools in Europe, as well as the International Baccalaureate Organization. The school uses American curriculum standards and benchmarks with an international perspective and a college preparatory level of rigor. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the IB Diploma Program is used in grades 11 and 12 in order to prepare our graduates for success in their continuing education. While academic excellence is our focus, the integration of the arts, humanities, technology, language learning, service, and athletics are closely connected to the ACST experience.
ACST’s students have an established tradition of hard work, varied interests, and a passion for learning and service. The school is a member of the Atlantic Mediterranean Activities Conference (AMAC) and our students participate in various competitions and activities with other member schools around the Mediterranean.
The students and families of ACST come from many countries and bring a wonderful range of international experience and perspective to the school. The excellent teachers at ACST come from a variety of North American public and private schools as well as comparable international schools from around the world. They are committed to fulfilling the school’s mission and the success of each student at ACST. They are talented teachers, writers, scientists, mentors, artists, athletes, coaches, community members and friends.
“I judge my students not by the answers they give but by the questions they ask.” Paul Cripps
ACST is a private, independent school governed by a nine-member Board of Directors elected by the members of the ACST Association. Parents are also actively involved in the school as part of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The school was established in 1959 by American Embassy parents and has enjoyed a close relationship with the US Embassy and Government for over 55 years.
As I begin my tenure at ACST, I look forward to experiencing all that ACST and Tunis has to offer and to continue my learning. Just as our school’s mission is to open doors, hearts and minds, please know that my door is always open, so please feel free to stop in to introduce yourself and learn more about ACST.
