Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
What is the PTO?
The PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. The aim of Parent Teacher Organization is to foster better relationships between parents and their children's schools. The PTO encourages parent, teacher and community involvement for the welfare of the students, the families and the school.
“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents."
Jane D. Hull.
The PTO creates a partnership which helps the school listen to and deal with parents' concerns. The PTO is for parents to learn more about the school and how to improve their children's education. Research shows that when parents are involved in their children’s education, their kids:
• earn better grades
• score higher on tests
• have better social skills
• are more positive about school
• graduate and continue their education
PTOs do not necessarily represent the views of all parents but they can be an excellent forum for communication and a basis for partnership between parents and schools.
Every parent and teacher is automatically a member of the ACST Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO has a volunteer committee, but new members are always welcome.
